Gulf Support for Egypt Affects U.S., Western Stand On June Revolution

Head of the fifty-member committee tasked with amending the constitution Amr Moussa affirmed that the support of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE for Egypt has affected the US and Western position on June 30 revolution.

"These countries returned to Egypt anew," Moussa, a former presidential candidate, told Kuwait's Al-Rai newspaper on Wednesday, saying "This is the right track after relations with the UAE and other countries had collapsed over the past year."

"There was no Egyptian foreign policy, at that time, but a Brotherhood's foreign policy," said Moussa.

He said the constitutional committee will finalize the initial draft after Eid Al Adha (Great Bairam) vacation and then it will be presented to members of the committee to debate controversial articles with the parties concerned.

Moussa denied the constitution includes any articles to protect individuals in the state institutions.

"We shape the future of institutions and not individuals," he said.

Shifting to reconciliation with the Muslim Brotherhood, Moussa said he had previously called for ending the crisis before it escalates when he was representing the salvation front and EU countries made several mediation efforts, but the group did not see the genuine danger.

Asked about if he will run for presidency once again, Moussa said "no talk about presidential election now."
